Most common technical questions

Why NEX-LAM instead of standard PE film?

Standard PE film (mono/2-layer) has limited optimization capabilities for specific applications. NEX-LAM (3-5 layer) provides independent control of:
• Sealant layer (hot-tack, initiation)
• Core layer (mechanics, barrier)
• Outer layer (optics, COF)

Your end customer receives packaging tailored to their process, not a compromise.

How to choose between LS and ULS for monomaterials?

Depends on the substrate:
• MDO PE: NEX-LAM LS (90°C) is sufficient, good price/performance balance
• BOPE: NEX-LAM ULS (80°C) is better, wider process window
• Coated paper: NEX-LAM LS, watch for migration

Always test before production – monomaterials are less forgiving than classic laminates.

What about PCR/PIR integration? Does it affect sealing parameters?

Yes, it can affect them. Therefore:

  1. We dose PCR in non-sealant layers (core layers)
  2. Sealant layer remains virgin material = stability
  3. We can achieve up to 30% PCR without affecting hot-tack
  4. Above 30% – parameter recalibration required

Can I order a custom structure for a specific customer project?

Yes. Minimum: 500 linear meters (depending on format).

Process:

  1. Technical brief (application, speed, requirements)
  2. Structure proposal (3-5 days)
  3. Test sample (5-7 days)
  4. Feedback & optimization (if needed)
  5. Production (10-14 days)

What is the thickness stability (tolerance)?

±5% for standard thicknesses (20-100μm)
±7% for thin films (<20μm) – downgauging

Online control every 50m. If we detect a deviation >8% – the roll does not leave production.

What about shelf-life? Do parameters change over time?

NEX-LAM is stable for 12 months under the following conditions:
• Temperature: 15-25°C
• Humidity: <60% RH
• Protected from UV

After this period: hot-tack may increase slightly (+5-10ms), but in most applications this is negligible.
