Films for packaging food and fast-moving consumer goods: bread, frozen food, meat, hygiene products, pet food. We produce to the BRC standard, with migration testing for specific items, and we design the film for your line, not from a catalogue. The result we measure: fewer seal rejects, less material per pack, the same line speed.

What goes wrong in FMCG

Three problems come back in almost every conversation. First: the seal fails when there is grease, spice dust or moisture in the seal zone; standard film then gives several to more than ten percent rejects and the line slows down. Second: the bag or pouch cracks in the freezer, because the formulation was calculated for room temperature and the product travels at -25 °C. Third: pressure on PPWR and recycled content, where quality departments fear that mono-material or PCR will ruin the parameters the line is set up for.

What we measure instead of price per kg

The percentage of seal rejects (before and after the film change), material cost per pack (not per kilogram of film), the number of complaints per million packs and whether line speed was maintained. If thinner film produces more rejects, it is more expensive, even when it costs less per kilogram.

Which NEX films

NEX-PACK BRP for bread and fresh products: PE instead of PP, 18 µm instead of 30 µm, no cracking in the freezer. NEX-PACK FR for frozen food with non-standard geometry, formulation matched to the product shape. NEX-LAM for lamination and printing: a wide hot tack window, a seal that holds with contamination, mono-PE versions for PPWR. NEX-PACK HG for hygiene products with 35-55% PCR and no loss of machinability. NEX-CAL for butter, cheese blocks, curd, lard and yeast: paper-like film with shape memory, PE-based with a high mineral content, without aluminium, instead of a paper, aluminium, PE laminate. All with in-house flexo printing up to 10 colours, in one location.

Proof from implementations

  • Bakery chain: 18 µm PE instead of 30 µm PP, 40% less material and an end to cracking in the freezer.
  • Flexo printing house for pet food: seal rejects from 12% to below 1%, the cost of the custom film paid back in 4 months.
  • Frozen fruit producer: zero bag cracking at -25 and -30 °C.
  • Baltic converter: a paper, aluminium, PE laminate replaced with 55 µm NEX-CAL paper-like film, grease barrier retained, no aluminium.

Who we are for, and who we are not

For producers and converters who pack repeatably and need from 5 tonnes a year per item; that is when a formulation can be designed for the line and the price held. If you need a few hundred kilograms of film to trial a new product, we will say plainly that a distributor will serve you better, and we will point you to one.

Next step

Technical form: product, packing machine, current film and thickness, the three most frequent defects. We come back with a proposal and a trial roll for your line; testing on the line, not in a laboratory.

Frequently asked questions

Are the films approved for food contact?

Yes. We produce to the BRCGS Packaging Materials standard, and for specific items we provide compliance testing to Regulation 1935/2004 and 10/2011 together with declarations of compliance.

The seal fails with a greasy product. What will you do about it?

We will select a film with a wider seal window and higher hot tack, so that the seal holds with grease or dust contamination. Pet food case: rejects from 12% to below 1% in the first weeks.

Can PE replace PP in bread packaging?

Yes. In the bakery chain case 18 µm PE replaced 30 µm PP: 40% less material, an end to cracking in the freezer, the packing line unchanged.
